The project, a Private Public Partnership (PPP or PFI) model, consists of the up-grading of 41 km of existing motorway (four to six lanes + emergency lane) and the operation and maintenance of in total 60 km of motorway between Malsch and Offenburg in southern Germany. This 50- year-old section is no longer capable of managing the present volume of traffic of more than 67,000 vehicles per day. The 30-year-concession project involves the funding, design, construction, operation and maintenance including a number of noise reduction structures and 105 bridges.
