A multitude of service facilities of the Austrian railways in the area of Vienna’s old Southern railway station had to be concentrated in a new site in preparation of the project Vienna main railway station. The reconstruction project of the station Vienna Matzleinsdorf comprised the construction of an operation building with approx. 11,000 m² useful area, the service halls for the Railjet, as well as for the electric and diesel locomotives, a supplementary train hall, an underfloor wheel lathe and other operational systems. In addition a total of five setting-up tracks had to be built in the outside section. The total project also comprised the disassembly and the reconstruction of approx. 22 km of track systems with the respective turnouts.
