The railway station Wels was reconstructed for operational optimization and side/island and bay platforms as well as additional holding tracks (approx. 170,000 m²) were erected. The aim of the work was an increase in the capacity of the line, improvement of costumer benefit, increase of safety, guarantee of accessibility, optimization and rationalization of the operational procedures, rationalization of operating procedures as well as efficiency increase of maintenance and project cost estimation for the planned measures. In the course of the elaboration of the project the eastern connection to the west railroad (four-track) had to be considered. In total 16 tracks were newly designed.
