According to the increase of the capacity and the operational availability of the Railway Section Bruck/Mur – Graz the technical condition of all assets needs to be enhanced.

As part of the traffic project German Unity VDE 8.1 the line starts from Ebensfeld and crosses the ThĂĽringer Wald by means of seven tunnels and six viaducts. The central station of Coburg is connected to the new track by an own junction also equipped with ballast-less track. In Coburg the line is connected to the next unit of project lot 2 center.
