In cooperation of Asfinag and Ă–BB eight escape and emergency routes were planned and realized. Six of them are connection tunnels between the Arlberg railway tunnel and the Arlberg road tunnel. One escape and emergency route leads into the Wolfsgruben tunnel, another one into open-air ground. The Arlberg road tunnel and the Arlberg railway tunnel run at a distance of a maximum of 400 m and an altitude difference of a maximum of 35 m. The individual connecting escape and emergency routes are at a distance of 1,700 m of each other and primarily serve for self-rescue.
