Allee der Kosmonauten
HOWOGE had the objective of developing a ground-breaking concept for the new construction of integrated secondary schools (ISS) and grammar schools by means of the realization of the project at the site Allee der Kosmonauten in Berlin’s district Lichtenberg.
Main focus. Structural Engineering
Location. 10315 Berlin, Germany
Client. HOWOGE Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH
Service in consortium. PPAG architects (architecture)
Services. Design-build, structural design, tender, light impact survey, building physics
Participating CCs. CC Project Management & General Consultant Buildings, CC Structural Design Buildings , CC Tender Procedure & Cost Determination, CC Acoustics, Dynamics, Building Physics, Measurement & Instrumentation
The building is composed of 6 components and is designed as reinforced concrete frame structure. In the centre of the school complex there is a two-storeyed sports hall. 5 approximately identically constructed compartment fingers were positioned around this central building. In the north the administrative area is joined between component part 1 and 5, which approaches the height of the sports hall in various levels. The height of the sports hall floors corresponds approx. to the height of two compartment floors.
Thus, the building extends into four-storeyed compartment fingers and a two-storeyed central sports hall. On the ground floor there are big open areas where the building is mounted on free-standing supports. Furthermore, parts of the school building have a basement, which offers space for technical and storage rooms.
Thanks to the generous application of precast and semi-precast reinforced concrete elements the construction time could be considerably reduced.
The formal approval by HOWOGE as well as the handover of the school building to the district Lichtenberg took place on 10 April 2024 according to plan and so school operation at the Allee der Kosmonauten started in August 2024.
