Lainzer Tunnel. Final Construction
Railway, tunnel
Lainzer Tunnel is a core of railway extension in Austria.
The main requirement for the establishment of a high-performance route in Greater Vienna was the new construction of an environmentally friendly and high-capacity connection between the Western and Southern Railway Line – Lainzer Tunnel.
All freight traffic coming from the west can be passed through “Lainzer Tunnel“ below the city and led to the central marshalling yard Kledering and the planned freight terminals in the south of Vienna.

„ No noise and vibration complaints since the beginning of operation are the best proof for the project’s success. “
Dr. Dieter Pichler
The tunnel is partly situated under residential areas and therefore comprehensive noise and vibration protection measures were required. The installation of different complementary floating track slab systems ensures optimum protection for the neighbours.
Total length of ballastless track and floating track slab system: approx. 30 km
