North–South Railway Tunnel Berlin
Railway, tunnel
In the central Berlin area an efficient North-South railway connection was established.
The section North-South Railway Tunnel Berlin covers the section from the new Lehrter main railway station via the government quarter to the Potsdamer Platz and on to the South up to Gleisdreieck.
As in this area high-quality buildings existed or were planned, extensive measures for the minimization of vibration and solid-borne sound emissions were necessary.

FCP’s services comprised the planning of the internal finishing works of the tunnel tubes (lateral spaces for escape routes, reservoirs, water supply lines and penstocks, underground cabling, track construction) including the required floating track slab and ballast-less track areas. Altogether this amounted to approx. 24 km of tracks and several turnout groups.
In 2004 FCP was nominated for the Austrian Consulting Award for the project “Feste Fahrbahn und Masse-Feder-System Nord-Süd-Fernbahntunnel” (Ballastless Track and Floating Track Slab System North-South Railway Tunnel).
