KliNa® Spotlight: Jointly Developing Sustainability
KliNa Spotlight 10/2026 | The company group FCP.VCE brings in its expertise for sustainable construction into intersectoral cooperation.
Sustainable building needs expertise cooperating beyond company boundaries. FCP and VCE therefore introduce the competences of the common KliNa initiative in IG Lebenszyklus Bau. In 2026 the company group participated as a member in three interdisciplinary working groups. There it is working at solutions together with other experts to be able to further develop existing buildings sustainably.
One focus is the working group “Konstruktion & Technik” (design & technology). Under the title “Lösungsansätze für die größten technischen Herausforderungen in der Kreislaufwirtschaft” (Approaches for the biggest technical challenges in a circular economy) the experts – including Albana Deralla – analyse specific practical projects: Which solutions have proved successful? Where were there any hurdles? Which approaches can be transferred to other buildings under which requirements? Experiences from planning, building certification, product manufacturing and interior design as well as economic and legal issues are integrated.
In the working group “Digitalisierung im Bestand: Nutzbar und wertvoll” (Digitization in existing structures: useful and valuable) Adelheid Bartmann, CC lead of Building Design at FCP, introduced our expertise on digitization of existing structures in “360° Bestand”. Lucia Klatil is involved in the working group “Dekarbonisierungs-Roadmap unterstützt durch Portfoliomanagement & Gebäude-Emissionshandel” (Decarbonization roadmap supported by portfolio management & carbon offset).
Who renovates, reconstructs or further uses a building, must know its condition and his/her own options
Connect Competences, Preserve Resources
Building stock plays a central role for sustainable construction. “Who renovates, reconstructs or further uses a building, must know its condition and his/her own options”, declared Albana Deralla, FCP expert and co-leader of the group “Konstruktion & Technik". The question which components and materials can be maintained or recycled is also important. The working groups of IG Lebenszyklus Bau bring together different perspectives to develop practicable bases for decision-making.
This cooperation is immediately connected with KliNa. With this initiative FCP.VCE concentrates its competences for climate protection and sustainability during the whole life cycle of structures. Supported by IG Lebenszyklus Bau this know-how is incorporated in the exchange with companies and experts from other sectors. Thus, technical solutions can be jointly further developed and anchored more deeply in construction practice.
In 2026 the annual topic of IG Lebenszyklus Bau was “The building stock as business case – revise business models and jointly implement them”. The findings from the working groups were also a focus at the16th congress of IG Lebenszyklus Bauat the University of Applied Sciences in Vienna. There the stakeholders of the construction and real estate industries discussed how the further development of existing buildings can succeed in an ecologically worthwhile and economically sustainable way.
