A Day in the Life

Tender & Cost Estimation . Mentor . Innovation Ambassador
Thomas Haidegger

What does a day in FCP's Tendering & Cost Estimation team actually look like? Our colleague Thomas takes us along to find out. As a mentor in our onboarding programme, he supports new colleagues as they settle in – and as an Innovation Ambassador, he plays an active role in shaping our culture of innovation.

Settling In & Checking In

8:00. Today I actually made it to the office without hitting snooze. Like (almost) every morning, I start with what matters most: together with colleagues, I do 26 push-ups – an initiative that started a while back and has since become a firm part of many morning routines. Five minutes that energise you and show that team spirit is genuinely valued here.

After the morning workout, I clock in and check my to-do list. Then come my morning team check-ins, where I clarify priorities – with a quick detour to the coffee machine, of course. Coffee in hand, I'm officially ready for some quiet focus time.

Core Work & Mentoring

In Tendering & Cost Estimation, I'm often working on several projects simultaneously – sometimes with very different requirements. That variety is exactly what I enjoy. I like diving into the details, developing solutions, and watching something concrete take shape.

While I work through my estimates for the day, colleagues drop by with questions from time to time, which I'm always happy to answer – especially those from my mentees from the internal mentoring programme. A willingness to help is something that's truly lived here. Responsibility comes with the role, but you're never on your own.

When the pieces fall into place at the end of the day and a project has moved one step forward, it motivates me every time.

Innovation & Shaping Things Together

12:00. Today we have our monthly floor lunch, which gives us the chance to catch up. You get to know each other better and build more of a connection across different departments, away from the day-to-day.

13:00. The Innovation Ambassadors meeting. For me, this is one of the reasons I feel so at home at FCP. We deliberately take the time to question processes and bring in new ideas. Innovation and team spirit aren't just words here – they're genuinely lived, and it's a pleasure to be part of shaping them together. After the meeting, it's back to independent project work at my desk.

17:30. When the pieces fall into place at the end of the day and I've moved a project one step forward, I can close my laptop feeling genuinely motivated.

Sometimes we round off the day together as a team – talking about what went well, or simply checking in on how everyone's doing. We work hard every day, with professionalism and high standards, but we laugh just as much.

For me, this isn't an exceptional day – it's simply what my everyday life at FCP looks like. That's exactly why I'm here.
