Redesign of Christian-Broda-Platz

Sat, 01.02.2025

The redesign of Christian-Broda-Platz has created a green and welcoming gateway towards Mariahilfer Strasse. The comprehensive redevelopment, completed at the end of 2024, enhances the area's quality of stay with 35 new trees, over 1,300 sqm of additional green space, water fountains and seating opportunities. By spring 2025, the foyer of Vienna's largest shopping street will shine in full blooming glamour.

The CC Traffic Design successfully realized the redesign of the formerly asphalt-dominated square on behalf of the city of Vienna, municipal department MA28. The redesign also includes the adjacent area of Mariahilfer Strasse up to Kaiserstrasse as well as the Gürtel junction. The elimination of one traffic lane has made way for physically separated cycle paths, while simultaneously increasing traffic safety for all. New green areas, spray nozzles, and light-coloured pavement create a pleasant microclimate.

The construction works, which began in March 2024, have been completed on schedule. With the redesign, a modern, climate-proof urban space has been created, which encourages sustainable mobility and significantly improves the quality of stay in the heart of Vienna.
